Project overview
Riverside Piggeries, a 950 sow piggery north of Pretoria, partnered with LogicalWaste to implement a complete biogas to energy system. The goal: transform waste into a stable, renewable power source while improving operational efficiency and sustainability.
Key Solutions Implemented
Lagoon Conversion & Gas Storage
HDPE Liner & Cover – Heavy duty HDPE liner with HDPE cover prevents leaks of both gas and liquid allowing for the capture of methane rich biogas.
Optimised Gas Capture – Converts the lagoon into a high capacity gas holder to provide a consistent supply of biogas.
Low Maintenance – Designed for minimal upkeep and long service life.
Biogas Conditioning System (BGCS)
BioS2 System – Biological desulphurisation system removes hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) protecting engines, piping, and other downstream equipment.
Advanced Dewatering System – Removes free moisture to improve combustion efficiency and prevent damage to downstream equipment.
Hydraulic Seal Flare – Safely combusts excess biogas when required, ensuring system pressure is controlled and harmful methane is converted to carbon dioxide and water.
Combined Heat and Power Unit
In House Developed CHP – Converts biogas into electricity and heat with high efficiency and low operating costs.
Stable Power Output – Designed to handle varying loads without compromising performance.
Triple Heat Recovery System – Heat generated by the combustion process can be recovered for additional on site use, improving overall efficiency.
Electrical Integration & Synchronisation
Custom Distribution System – Includes utility incomer and feeder circuits for reliable energy delivery.
Advanced Synchronisation Controller – Ensures the CHP operates seamlessly with the grid and backup diesel generators.
Power Quality Protection – Smooth, uninterrupted electricity flow prevents downtime or equipment stress.
